We had a good weekend. There that’s it. Told ya short.

Okay, I’ll give a little more detail.

Today was a fun day. Troy led and I was on drums. We started off with Salvation is Here, but we added a twist. We put in a verse of “Carry on My Wayward Son” and the solo and outro section of the Kansas tune too. It was enjoyable watching the different crowds respond to the song.

After that we went into Troy’s song, “Better Than Life.” Then we did “How He Loves” and “Song of Hope.”

Dan preached the 3rd part of a series we’re in called “Stuffed.” He talked discerning authenticity.

He had a pretty good analogy. When a boat’s engine isn’t running well you will be able to tell that something’s wrong if there is something left in the wake. A boat that isn’t running well will leave an oil residue behind.

He paralleled that to our lives. We leave behind a wake with every person we meet and interact with. Are we living a life that is authentic with what we believe and speak?

It’s Thursday, and last Sunday is becoming a blur. I wish I would have written this review on Monday when it was more fresh on my mind.

The reason I write these reviews are because I believe that evaluation improves our execution. I like that. Evaluation improves Execution. I might need to tweet that.

This weekend we had Randy Coleman in town from OKCity and he did an amazing job teaching Westside on how to Biblically handle worry.

I had the privilege of leading worship at our Overland Park Campus last weekend. The band at OP did a great job in keeping the groove’s simple and giving the music the dynamics it needed to create a worship experience.

OP set list:

Beautiful One (Tim Hughes: When Silence Falls)

The Lenexa Campus

It was a strong weekend here at Lenexa. Its great to see musicians growing in their talent and learning to lead people while playing. Each week, someone surprises me by stepping up their leadership. Whether it be not playing with a music stand or something as simple as smiling, our team is raising their bar.

Last week was a crazy busy week with the wrap up of “What if the Church?” and starting a new series on the weekend.

The worship and prayer night was an amazing night when 12 churches came together to worship with worship leaders from a majority of them. It was good meeting other worship leaders and working with them. I hope to see more of them, not just once a year. Here are a couple shots from the night.

We also started a new series this weekend called “Uncertain.” This Sunday we talked about Finding Rest in Uncertain Times.

Our set was:

One Life (Troy Kennedy: Not recorded yet)

This weekend was proof that you can’t hit a home run every week. Some weeks, the worship is engaging and the people are with you, and other weeks – you just feel as if you are leading to deaf ears. That’s what this weekend was like. Not that it was bad, it was just people didn’t engage as much as they normally do.

Why wasn’t it a homerun? I don’t know. If I did, I’d write a book. It could have been a number of variables:

It was a stormy weekend with Tornado warnings on Saturday.

School activities

It could have been that we did 4 original songs.

People could have been in a weird space.

Sound could have been off.

Lights might not have been set right.

Even though it wasn’t a home run, it wasn’t a strike out. It just reminds us to do our best every week and let God do the rest.

The weekend set was:

Alive And Running
What I Need
