Grateful for My Heritage

Over the weekend, I was prepping for the message this Sunday. I went to the bookshelf to pull the good ole “Evidence that Demands a Verdict,” by Josh McDowell. The copy I have is special because it was my Dad’s and was given to him in 1973.

As I went through the pages looking for a specific page the picture below fell out of the pages. It is a great reminder of the heritage I have. I’m grateful for having parents who modeled Christ to me.

Weekend Reflect: Jesus Exhibition wk 1

We started off our series Jesus Exhibition last Sunday on July 4th, and pardon the pun – It was a bang.

Over these 4 weeks we will have live art happening on stage during the worship and the message. This week we had Beth Witte and she painted on Jesus the Feeder. The art she completed after each service was up to silent auction and the proceeds went to start soup kitchens in South Africa.

Sunday, I discovered there is something unique that happens when you engage spoken word with live art. There is a new level of engagement that could appear as a distraction but turned out to be very effective.

New Series: Jesus Exhibition

Today, we are staring a new series called Jesus Exhibition. We will be incorporating live art in our services to reinforce the weekend teaching. This week we have Beth Witte from our Speedway Campus to paint on “Jesus the Feeder.”

The art will be up for a silent auction after each service and the proceeds will go to raise money for mission efforts. This weeks paintings will raise money to pay for a soup kitchen in South Africa. Each soup kitchen costs $1500 to get started. The painting in the first service sold for exactly $1500, so our first soup kitchen is already paid for!

I’ll post more images and results later. What a great start for a series and for the Fourth of July.

First Father’s Day

After our last service at the Olathe Campus, we headed to my parents in Neosho. It was great having our first father’s day and getting to also spend it with PapaRobinson.

Cassie got Judah and myself a shirt for Father’s Day. Check out the cuteness!

Saturday Night’s Inaugural Day

After much anticipation, we started our Saturday Night service tonight. I was unsure about how many people would be there but to my amazement we had over 700 people on our first night. Our 5 o’clock service was the largest. The 6:30 service was a little sparse, but we were expecting that.

That means that we opened up 700 seats for our Sunday AM peak times. It was a good move to go to Sat night. We were planning on doing this in the Fall but attendance spiked early in January that made our leadership make the call to launch Sat nights now.

I’m interested to see what next Sat is like. With this being Super Bowl weekend, I’m wondering if some people took advantage of this tonight to get ready for social things tomorrow. I guess we’ll see.

We had our Vocal Team in full force tonight and it rocked. And Crystal did awesome on the ppt.

Notice in the pic below that Jared made 2 signs for Pastor Dan so he wouldn’t mention “tonight” in the message since the regionals would be watching this message in the morning.
